NEW AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH INTERN
Hi, I am Juliette Levesque, the new year-long Agricultural Research Intern! I am from Westborough, Massachusetts, and I recently graduated from the University of Vermont with a BS in Animal Science. I originally chose UVM because of their CREAM program, a student-run dairy farm, as I was very excited for the hands-on animal experience.
I have been interested in veterinary medicine for as long as I can remember but wasn’t sure what area I wanted to pursue or which animals I wanted to work with. I fell in love with working with large animals through an internship on a privately owned goat farm in Rehoboth, MA (Rosasharn Farm) in 2023 and doing the UVM CREAM program in 2024.
At Rosasharn Farm I worked with Nigerian Dwarf goats, livestock guardian dogs, cats, sheep, American guinea hogs, and poultry. Throughout my experience I was involved in milking, assisting with births for goats and dogs, crop harvesting, American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA) shows, and many other daily feeding and cleaning chores. During the CREAM program I got to help with milking, feeding calves, IACUC inspections, vaccinations and other health treatments, Ovsynch protocols, and a variety of other responsibilities.
My experiences at these farms have shaped me personally and professionally, and I am very grateful to the people and animals I had the pleasure of working with.
I learned about Miner Institute during my freshman year at UVM, and have been wanting to be involved in research here since then! I am grateful for this opportunity and excited for the year ahead. I look forward to expanding my skills and knowledge in research methods, animal handling, and the many other aspects of an efficient research facility and farm. I hope to go to vet school after my internship here and apply all I have learned to a career working with livestock and the people that care for them.
