My name is Chloe Otterson-Taylor, and I’m from Elk Grove, California. I recently graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science in Dairy Science. Although I grew up around horses and spent much of high school working with and finishing them, it wasn’t until college that I discovered my passion for the dairy industry.

During my first quarter at Cal Poly, I took a calving enterprise course that led to a job offer at the university dairy. I spent the next three and a half years working as a milker, calf feeder, herdsman, on-farm resident, and breeding and calving manager. I also spent a couple quarters as a herdsman at the Cal Poly Beef Unit, gaining a fundamental understanding of beef operations. After graduating, I spent a short few months as Assistant Herd Manager at Stepladder Creamery in Cambria, California, before finding Miner Institute through the Dairy Challenge Alumni community and applying to the year-long Dairy Management Internship!

I am incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to intern here at Miner for the next year and work with some great people and cows. I look forward to expanding my understanding of dairy management, daily operations, and the many components that contribute to a productive and successful herd. Following the completion of this internship, I hope to return to California’s Central Valley to begin my career in dairy management.
