Catherine S. Ballard
Director of Research
Katie Ballard grew up in the Finger Lakes of New York State and received her B.S. degree in Animal Science with Honors in Undergraduate Research at the University of Vermont. She received a graduate fellowship from Miner Institute and received her M.S. degree in Animal Science from the University of Vermont in 1988, investigating techniques for in vitro maturation and fertilization of bovine oocytes. She accepted a position at Miner Institute as the Equine Program Coordinator in 1987 and was named Director of Research in 1993. The Institutes research activities mainly involve agronomy, ruminant nutrition and nutrient cycling. However, Katie's particular interest in reproductive physiology has involved work with dairy cattle and improving systems for storage of stallion semen. Katie lives with her husband and three sons on a bicentennial dairy farm in Georgia, Vermont.
