The Heart’s Delight Farm Summer Internship is an integral part of Miner Institute’s implementation of preserving the archives of its founder, William Henry Miner. Working alongside staff members in a tutorial arrangement, interns gain valuable skills and training in archival practice, historical analysis, public relations, and further develop their researching skills.
This internship involves cataloging historical records in accordance with standard conservation methods, researching and compiling text for exhibit materials, and working at the historical exhibit on weekends. Other duties will be assigned as time allows.
Responsibilities/Duties
Duties of the HDF intern may include any of the following:
- Research and interpret archives
- Catalog archival collections
- Assist with scanning of archival materials and managing digital assets
- Create and maintain databases of the collections
- Welcome visitors and conduct group tours; Open/close exhibit as needed
- Participate in interpretive planning and exhibition development
- Assist in development of school/teacher programs
- Research and prepare oral histories for permanent posting on the website by utilizing the archives
- Prepare media packages
- Prepare Miner Day packages
- Research project
In addition to these duties, interns will be required to keep a daily journal. This information should be compiled in a portfolio, which will be submitted to the intern’s supervisor at the completion of the internship. The intern is encouraged to submit the portfolio to the educational institution for credit and assessment.
Skills/Qualifications
Hours/Compensation
The intern is required to work 20-25 onsite hours per week. Additional hours may be required for research, marketing and tours, and special events or presentations. The basic schedule will be 5-6 hours per weekday, with mandated hours from 9:30am to 3:30pm on Saturday. A master schedule will be provided to the intern on the first day. The compensation is $2,500.
Research Project
Interns will be required to prepare and present a research project. The project can be either a research paper or a dimensional design.
