Advanced Dairy Management
The Advanced Dairy Management (ADM) program began in 2000 as a collaboration between Vermont Technical College, the University of Vermont, and Miner Institute to provide students with hands-on experience in the management of a commercial dairy herd. This intensive residential program is a key part of the UVM/VTC FARMS 2+2 program, which allows students to directly transition to UVM as juniors in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Miner Institute faculty and staff teach this 15 credit course. Areas of study include dairy nutrition basics, forage quality, field crops, farm tours, guest lecturers, agricultural seminars, and individual research projects. During the semester students spend time working alongside employees on the Miner Institute dairy farm. Students also have the opportunity to travel to a variety of industry conferences throughout the nation and compete in the North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge.
