Miner Agricultural Institute in Chazy Jan. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 = p.m. <o:p> </o:p> Their presentation will be part of a program called Wi= nter Dairy Management: Raising Fiscally Responsible Replacements. <o:p> </o:p> "We expanded our heifer barn and are now in the p= rocess of adding an AFI system," Dan said, explaining that AFI stands for a dairy-management software system that helps producers know when cows are in= heat and ready to be bred. It also tracks fertility, breeding success, health and such data as daily milk weights for milking cows. He said it allows them to breed the heifers by heat activity. "This system has worked well for o= ur cows and we expect it will for the heifers as well," he said. <o:p> </o:p> Cornell Cooperative Extension Dairy and Livestock Educ= ator Ron Kuck, who works with the Jefferson County d= airy couple, said, "The Rossiter farms are very well-managed with a workforce that accepts responsibility and works well together.
